APC Dominates Nasarawa State’s Local Government Elections, Securing 13 Chairmanship Seats

The results of the recently held elections in Nasarawa State have been declared, and the All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged victorious in all 13 chairmanship positions across the state’s local government areas.

Ayuba Usman, Chairman of the Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC), announced the results at the commission’s headquarters in Lafia, the state capital, on Sunday evening. The elections took place on November 2, covering 13 local government areas and 147 electoral wards.

The APC had a landslide victory, claiming all 13 chairmanship seats and dominating the councillorship contests, securing 140 out of the 147 wards. The Social Democratic Party (SDP) secured five wards, while the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) won two wards.

In terms of the breakdown of chairmanship results by local government area, the figures include:

Ayuba praised the peaceful conduct of the election and expressed gratitude to voters for their dedication to strengthening democracy at the grassroots. He attributed the success of the election to significant stakeholder engagement, including the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) and security agencies, which contributed to the orderly conduct of the electoral process.

Ayuba also highlighted the high level of confidence in the electoral process, citing the participation of 14 political parties and the use of technology, which he said streamlined the process, ensuring efficiency and transparency. The NASIEC Chairman reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to upholding democratic values and ensuring fair and credible election outcomes.
