APC Sweeps Nasarawa Local Government Elections, Wins 13 Chairmanship Seats

Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC) Certifies 13 New Local Government Chairpersons

Today, the NASIEC Chairman, Barrister Ayuba Usman Wandai, handed out certificates of return to the 13 newly elected local government chairpersons at the commission’s headquarters. The event marked the final step in a process marked by transparency, credibility, and a genuine reflection of the people’s will.

In a ceremony filled with pride, Wandai highlighted the commission’s commitment to fairness and integrity, stating that the presentation of certificates of return represented the final statutory responsibility of NASIEC in the electoral process. He expressed confidence in the credibility of the process and the legitimacy of the results.

Wandai also took the opportunity to express gratitude to all stakeholders who played crucial roles in the successful execution of the election. He lauded the efforts of security agencies in maintaining peace, traditional leaders in promoting unity, and the Inter-Party Advisory Council, the media, and political parties for their contributions to the smooth conduct of the electoral process.

The NASIEC Chairman also acknowledged the leadership of Governor Abdullahi Sule and the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, whose support greatly facilitated the successful organization of the council polls.

He commended the hard work of NASIEC’s management and staff, saying their dedication and commitment to the success of the election were commendable, and their professionalism had upheld the standards of the commission.

Wandai praised the political parties that participated in the elections, noting their maturity, lawful behavior, and commitment to peaceful practices.

He urged any dissatisfied political parties to address their concerns through appropriate legal channels, emphasizing that the democratic framework provides mechanisms for redress.

Candidates from the All Progressives Congress (APC) secured all 13 chairmanship positions, with 140 APC candidates winning in the councillorship elections, five for the Social Democratic Party (SDP), and two for the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP). The detailed analysis of the results showed the following: Lafia (217,573), Doma (70,545), Keana (35,094), Awe (59,206), Obi (93,486), Keffi (74,419), Kokona (53,057), Akwanga (82,075), Toto (43,792), Karu (146,450), Wamba (39,377), Nasarawa (96,358), and Nasarawa-Eggon (94,497).
