Activist Abducted by Bandits in Katsina State
Ibrahim Mai Katia, a well-known activist and advocate for good governance, was taken during a recent attack on the Turare community in Dutsin-ma Local Government Area of Katsina State. Katia, a vocal voice in the region’s efforts to improve governance, was seized by bandits.
According to reports, during the attack, the bandits shot Katia and abducted his two wives, taking them to an unknown location. This is just one of many unreported attacks in the region, where banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism have been escalating over the past few years.
In an effort to address the situation, the state government, led by Umar Dikko Rada, has launched the Katsina Vigilante Service, a community-based policing initiative aimed at combating these issues.
In other news, a distressing incident occurred on Thursday, as at least 20 passengers traveling in five vehicles were taken hostage on the Mariga-Kontagora road in Niger State. The incident, which occurred between Baban-Lamba and Beri, has left authorities concerned.
Sarkin-Daji, the Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, representing Mariga Constituency, expressed alarm over the recurring abductions along this route. He implored the military to intervene urgently, citing reports that released hostages had identified the kidnappers as operating within a forested area near the Kontagora Army Barracks.
In light of this, Sarkin-Daji asked the military to assess the situation, clear the area of bandits, and ensure the safety of travelers in the region.
