APC Delta State Chapter Welcomes Arrest of Former Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State has expressed its support for the recent arrest of former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, hailing it as a milestone in Nigeria’s ongoing anti-corruption drive.
In a statement issued shortly after the news broke, the party emphasized that Okowa’s detention underscores the government’s commitment to combating corruption at both state and federal levels. According to reports, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) confirmed the arrest of Okowa, who served as Delta State governor from 2015 to 2023, on allegations of misappropriation of funds and dubious financial dealings during his tenure.
The APC’s statement, signed by State Publicity Secretary Valentine Onojeghuo Esq., praised the Federal Government for its decisive action. The party commended the EFCC for taking a firm stance against corruption and encouraged the commission to extend its scrutiny to other former governors and officials.
The statement noted that Okowa’s arrest represents a broader national commitment to combating corruption and ensuring that public resources benefit the citizens rather than private interests. The APC expressed its support for the fight against corruption, stating that no one is above the law and that the fight must be unwavering and thorough.
The full statement from the party reads: “We in the APC welcome the news of the arrest of former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, who presided over one of the most egregious cases of financial recklessness and mismanagement during his eight-year administration. His corrupt practices involved the diversion of massive state funds for personal enrichment, establishing a bank, and financing his failed presidential ambition, as well as the manipulative imposition of his puppet godson as governor against the will of the people of Delta State who desperately sought change.
“No one, regardless of their position or political affiliation, is above the law. The fight against corruption must be unwavering and thorough, and we are pleased to see the administration taking bold steps in this direction.”
