A New Era in Search: OpenAI Launches ChatGPT Search to Challenge Google and Bing
In a move to revolutionize the way we search for information online, OpenAI is integrating web search functionality into its popular chatbot, ChatGPT. This new feature, called SearchGPT, aims to provide users with trusted, high-quality, and relevant answers by scouring the web for the most accurate sources.
earchGPT uses a combination of content provided by its publishing partners, third-party search providers, and websites that allow OpenAI’s OAI-Searchbot crawlers. This new feature is now available on both the desktop version of chatgpt.com and the mobile app for Android, iPhone, and iPad.
But that’s not all. OpenAI is also working on refining the search experience, with a focus on shopping and travel. The company plans to incorporate visual results, such as images and videos, for weather, maps, news, sports, and stock-related queries. This will give users a more comprehensive understanding of the information provided.
Interestingly, SearchGPT first debuted as a temporary prototype just a few months ago. Since then, the web search functionality has been rolled out to ChatGPT Plus and Team users, as well as those who signed up for the SearchGPT waitlist. The feature will be available to users on the Enterprise and Education plans in the coming weeks. Free plans, however, will have to wait a little longer.
But don’t worry, unregistered or logged-out users – OpenAI promises that you’ll get access to the new web search experience in the future, once the feature is deemed stable and reliable. For now, registered users – particularly paid subscribers – get priority access to the new feature.
With SearchGPT, OpenAI is poised to take on some major players in the search engine game, including Google and Bing. Will they be able to dethrone the giants? Only time will tell, but one thing is for sure – the future of search is looking bright.
