Queen Camilla Steps Back from Official Duties Due to Health Reasons
Buckingham Palace announced on Tuesday that Queen Camilla, the wife of King Charles III, will be taking a temporary break from her official duties due to a recent chest infection. The 77-year-old monarch is currently undergoing medical treatment at home, with her doctors advising her to take a short period of rest.
“A decision was made for Her Majesty to withdraw from her engagements for this week, as she faces a necessary period of recovery,” the Palace stated. While she regrets any inconvenience this may cause, she is hopeful to recover in time to attend the upcoming Remembrance events, a significant occasion for the royal family.
The Palace has since announced that the Duchess of Gloucester, Birgitte, will take Queen Camilla’s place at the annual opening of the Field of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey. Additionally, the Queen will be absent from a Buckingham Palace reception for Olympic and Paralympic athletes, with King Charles III hosting in her stead.
This news comes on the heels of the Queen’s return from a royal tour of Australia and Samoa with King Charles III. The couple’s public duties have been on hold since last year, when King Charles took a temporary hiatus from public appearances due to personal health issues.
As Queen Consort, Camilla has been a vital part of the British monarchy since King Charles’ ascension to the throne in 2022, following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. Her commitment to her royal duties has been unwavering, despite the demands of the role. With her current health issues, the Palace remains optimistic that she will make a full recovery in time to attend the upcoming Remembrance events, a cherished tradition among the royal family.
