In a bid to combat the economic challenges facing the country, the Federal Government has been called upon to provide support to private tertiary institutions.
Speaking at a press conference in Ibadan, the Vice-Chancellor of Precious Cornerstone University, Timothy Adejumo, emphasized the importance of government backing for these institutions.
Adejumo shared his concerns about the economic situation, stating that the income generated from student fees is no longer sufficient to cover operational costs for private institutions.
To overcome this challenge, he urged the government to allow private institutions to tap into the Tertiary Education Trust Fund and the Nigerian Education Loan Fund.
The Vice-Chancellor stressed the vital role private universities play in training students, adding that the government should not discriminate against them. He highlighted the need for adequate funding to enable private institutions to continue providing quality education.
The institution is also set to hold its third convocation ceremony, where 118 students will be awarded degrees. These students have demonstrated exceptional character and entrepreneurial skills.
The graduating students will receive degrees in various disciplines, including First-Class (14), Second-Class Upper (65), Second-Class Lower (37), and Third-Class (2) honors.
The institution remains committed to producing students with strong characters and the adaptability to succeed in a rapidly changing world.
