NAPS Praises Tinubu on New Curriculum Reforms

NAPPS hails Tinubu on new curriculum

The National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the newly launched entrepreneurship curriculum for students in basic schools, emphasizing the need for skill acquisition in driving national progress.

In addition, the association announced its plan to grant scholarships to 52 minors who were recently released from detention, up to the secondary school level.

This follows President Tinubu’s directive to release the minors who were arrested during the End-Bad-Governance protests.

At a press conference, NAPPS Board of Trustees Chairman, Alhaji Abdulmumuni Kundak, reiterated the association’s commitment to fostering educational excellence and quality pedagogy, striving to be a beacon of transformation in the country’s educational landscape.

Kundak announced the approval of the 2023 NAPPS Constitution by the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), ensuring all governance procedures align with the constitution. This recognition distinguishes the association’s duly appointed Board of Trustees from any other group claiming authority.

NAPPS National President, Chief Yomi Otubela, highlighted the association’s dedication to reducing out-of-school children through various scholarship initiatives. He noted that member schools regularly award a minimum of five scholarships to pupils, promoting educational access and equality.

Otubela commended President Tinubu for approving grants to support private schools, stating that member schools have not increased fees beyond 15% despite economic hardships. To cut costs, private schools have implemented measures such as reducing co-curricular activities, adopting technology to drive teaching and learning, reducing non-teaching staff, and switching to solar energy.

“You’re unlikely to find a member school that has increased fees beyond 15%. As a result, we’ve reduced co-curricular activities due to the economy. We’re generating teaching materials using AI, reducing non-teaching staff, and introducing solar energy to cut costs. We’re partnering with the government to run schools at minimal cost,” Otubela said.

Kundak also announced the upcoming NAPPS International Conference & Exhibition (NICE Calabar 2024) on November 20-21, with the theme “Illuminate, Innovate, Elevate: Breaking Barriers in the Education Sector for National Development.” The event aims to address key education challenges and explore solutions to elevate educational standards across the nation.

The conference will feature discussions on necessary measures to improve educational quality and ensure long-term national progress.
