Super Eagles B Team Embarks on Crucial Phase of Preparations for CHAN Qualifiers against Ghana
The Super Eagles B team has begun its second phase of preparations for the highly anticipated two-legged Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers against Ghana, scheduled to take place in December. This marks an important milestone in the team’s journey, as they strive to secure a spot in the 2025 CHAN tournament, co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
Following the conclusion of the initial training phase, players were given time off to return to their clubs for the upcoming matches in the Nigeria Premier Football League. As they resumed training on Tuesday, 26 players reported to the training camp, signaling a new phase of preparations.
According to interim head coach Augustine Eguavoen, the 32-man roster for this phase of training has been announced, featuring a mix of experienced players and emerging talents. Notable additions include goalkeeper Kayode Bankole from Remo Stars, Suur Kumaga from Lobi Stars, and Ossu Martin. The roster also includes familiar faces like Bernard Ovoke, Aniekeme Okon, and Ubong Friday from Rivers United, as well as Dominion Ohaka, a rising star from the Under-23 and Water FC.
The roster is further bolstered by a trio from Kano Pillars: Abiam Nelson, Aminu Adams, and Sudais Alibaba. Eguavoen’s goal is to strike a balance between experience and youthful energy, with a view to optimizing player readiness and developing a cohesive team dynamic ahead of the crucial matches.
The invited players are expected to report to camp promptly for intense preparations, which will be overseen by assistant coaches Fidelis Ikechukwu and Daniel Amokachi while Eguavoen attends to an overseas commitment. The first leg of the qualifier is set to take place in Ghana between December 20th and 22nd, followed by the second leg in Nigeria the following week. The aggregate winner of these matches will secure direct qualification for the 2025 CHAN tournament, making these matches a defining moment in the Super Eagles B’s pursuit of continental glory.
