- Omokri’s attack on Obi was centered around the latter’s stance on staying married even if his wife cheats, which he compared to a sex scandal involving Baltasar Ebang Engonga, the head of Equatorial Guinea’s National Financial Investigation Agency.
Nigerian comedian, Funny Bone, has criticized former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, for his online mocking of Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate for the Labour Party.Omokri’s criticism of Obi’s statement on staying married even if his wife cheats was rooted in a sex scandal involving Baltasar Ebang Engonga, the head of Equatorial Guinea’s National Financial Investigation Agency, who was caught engaging in sexual activities with multiple women, including his brother’s wife, a cousin, and the sister of the President of Equatorial Guinea.Omokri questioned how someone who is indifferent to their wife’s infidelity could possibly be concerned about corruption among government officials. He also pondered whether a president prioritizes public funds over their wife’s loyalty, referencing the potential implications of bank names, such as Fidelity Bank.
“If you don’t care if your wife is having affairs outside, how will you care if your officials are stealing government money? Look at it rationally. Are you saying that you will value government money more than your wife’s fidelity? Then why did you name your bank Fidelity Bank? If that is what fidelity means to you, then is our money safe in your bank?[/em]
A President who does not care if his wife has affairs outside will breed many Balthazar Ebang Engongas around him. It is a very indecent thing to say and is indicative of disrespect for the sanctity of marriage. Such a person lacks the moral authority to be the President of Nigeria and may want to move to a country where their lax morals align with their way of life.
The comedian wasn’t having it and responded to Omokri’s comments on his social media section, writing:
Reno!! This is beneath you. Too low for your standards. Too low. Learn to let some things slide. This one, no enter, bro.
