Spotify has been testing its Offline Backup feature for months, and the music streaming giant is now rolling it out to Premium users. The feature is available on the Spotify Android and iOS apps, as well as on Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Designed to keep the music playing, even when users lose their internet connection, Offline Backup automatically collects queued and recently streamed tracks into an “Offline Backup” playlist in the Spotify mobile app. This playlist is generated using cached data already stored on the user’s device.
Unlike traditional offline modes, which require manual downloads, Offline Backup doesn’t use any extra data or storage space. This means users can access their favorite tracks without incurring additional expenses or running out of space.

To access Offline Backup, users must first enable Offline Listening and listen to more than five songs with an internet connection. Once this is done, an “Offline Backup” card will appear on the “Home” feed when the device is offline. The playlist can be added to the user’s library, just like other auto-generated playlists, and can be sorted and filtered by mood, genre, artist, and other options.
Spotify will roll out Offline Backup to Premium users globally this week. To access the feature, update your Spotify app to the latest version on your Android and iOS device, and wait for it to become available in your region.
