Vice President Kashim Shettima Urges Prioritization of Community Service and Legacy-Building
In a recent address at the inauguration of the Ibapon Central Mosque in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, Vice President Kashim Shettima lamented the widespread mindset that views spiritual obligations as distractions. He emphasized the importance of prioritizing community service and legacy-building over personal gain.
Shettima argued that the world is currently plagued by a self-serving mentality, where individuals focus on their own interests rather than the greater good. He encouraged leaders to set an example by putting the needs of others before their own.
The Vice President also praised the newly commissioned mosque, which he described as a “gift for generations” that stands in contrast to the prevailing materialistic culture. He noted that the mosque would serve as a source of spiritual strength and inspiration for the community and beyond.
Shettima reminded the audience that every moment of life is a reminder of its impermanence, and that the brevity of life underscores the urgency of filling our days with meaningful deeds that will have a lasting impact in the hereafter.
The event was attended by various dignitaries, including Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, Oyo State Deputy Governor, Barr. Abdul-Raheem Adebayo Lawal, and Senator Abdulfatai Omotayo Buhari, who represented Oyo North Senatorial District and commissioned the mosque.
In his address, Jibrin praised Senator Buhari for his dedication to service, saying that the mosque project was not only a service to the Muslim Ummah but to humanity at large. Lawal emphasized that the mosque is not just a physical structure but a spiritual exercise that fosters unity and peace.
Senator Buhari expressed his gratitude to the Vice President, governors of Oyo and Kwara States, members of the National Assembly, and community members who contributed to the success of the project.
The event also featured a welcome address by the Aare Musulumi of Ogbomosoland and the turbaning of two Imams for the newly commissioned mosque. Other officials in attendance included the Governor of Kwara State, Alhaji AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the Soun of Ogbomoso Land, Oba Afolabi Ghandi Olaoye, state government officials, and traditional rulers.
