EFCC Arrests Two Chinese Nationals and Two Nigerians for Attempted Mineral Export
According to a statement from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), two Chinese nationals and two Nigerians have been apprehended for attempting to export solid minerals without the required permits.
The Chinese nationals, siblings Wang Jiang and Wang Richard, and the Nigerians, Donatus Agupusi and Michael Benneth Agu, were arrested for their involvement in the alleged illegal export of solid minerals.
The investigation began when Wang Jiang was stopped at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu after suspicious stones were discovered in his luggage during a security screening.
The other suspects, Donatus Agupusi and Michael Benneth Agu, were arrested at the Enugu Zonal Directorate of the EFCC.
The arrest followed an intelligence report received by the Commission through the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) on November 3, 2024.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Wang Jiang was attempting to travel to China to conduct tests on the solid minerals, while Agupusi, the owner of Great Wall Construction Limited, was identified as the employer of the remaining suspects.
Furthermore, investigators found that none of the four suspects had the necessary permits to export the solid minerals to China.
The suspects will be charged to court once investigations are completed.
