In a move to improve the educational environment in Oyo State, Nigeria, Japan-based companies Kawasho Foods Trade Corporation and JFE Shoji Corporation have made a significant contribution to 10 public basic schools across the state.
The donation includes essential items such as 11,000 exercise books, 360 desks and benches, and 150 cartons of canned food products. This generous gesture aims to enhance the learning experience for students in the three senatorial districts of Oyo State.
At a special presentation ceremony in Ibadan, Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran, the Executive Chairman of the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (OYOSUBEB), extended heartfelt thanks to the companies for their support.
He emphasized that the donated furniture will significantly improve the comfort and posture of students while the exercise books will provide essential writing materials, especially for those from less affluent backgrounds. This, he believes, will ultimately lead to better academic performance.
Dr. Adeniran also encouraged other multinational companies operating in Nigeria to emulate the corporations’ example and invest in the country’s future by supporting education. He assured that the materials would be used effectively and called on teachers to reciprocate the gesture by working diligently and dedicating themselves to their students.
Murata Kotaro, the Africa representative of the corporations, highlighted their long-standing commitment to supporting education in Nigeria, dating back to 2011.
“Our annual provision of notebooks, desks, and benches is a way to support children’s education, while our canned food donations are intended to support their diet,” he explained.
The 10 schools benefiting from this initiative include F.O.A. Primary School II in Ibadan, Salvation Army Primary School in Yemetu Barracks, and Sacred Heart Primary School in Oke-Ayo, among others.
The ceremony was attended by key figures, including Mrs. Olaide Ladipo, the Executive Secretary of the Board, and Mr. Agboifo Henry, the country representative of the company.
