The Lagos State Residents Registration Agency’s General Manager, Bilikiss Adebiyi–Abiola, emphasized the importance of registering pupils in low-fee-paying private schools to ensure that all residents are accurately counted and represented in government planning for improved access to essential services.
She made this statement during the official relaunch and inaugural conference of the SEED-LASRRA Partnership, themed “No Child Left Behind,” at the NECA House Events Centre in Ikeja.
Adebiyi–Abiola noted that with a growing population and diverse educational landscape, pupils in these schools are often underrepresented in official data. By registering them, educational planning can be enhanced, community development strengthened, and a sense of belonging fostered among pupils and their families, ultimately promoting civic engagement and community participation.
The Founder and Executive Director of SEED Care & Support Foundation, Olanrewaju Oniyitan, stressed that no child should be deprived of their fundamental right to education, regardless of their socioeconomic status, gender, or age.
She highlighted the importance of education, saying it unlocks opportunities and is the most profound investment one can make. Oniyitan also appealed to organizations and institutions to partner with the foundation, emphasizing that together, they can achieve a unified goal of ensuring all children have access to education.
She pointed out that LASRRA’s initiatives can align with the foundation’s goals, allowing for more cohesive planning and execution of programs aimed at improving education and economic outcomes. LASRRA’s role in data management, service access, community engagement, policy alignment, and evaluation supports the foundation’s mission to promote sustainable education and economic development.
The event’s highlight was the screening of a documentary that showcased the struggles faced by children and their parents in various communities with underprivileged residents.
