Globacom Names Ahmad Farroukh as New CEO
A well-seasoned telecommunications expert, Farroukh brings over 20 years of industry experience to his new role, having previously held leadership positions at several prominent telecom companies.
As part of its ongoing efforts to enhance corporate governance and operational efficiency, Globacom has appointed Ahmad Farroukh as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). This strategic move aims to revitalize the company’s growth and restore confidence in the face of current challenges.
Farroukh’s extensive experience in African telecommunications makes him an ideal candidate to steer Globacom through a period of restructuring and reform. With a strong background in executive management, he has successfully led several telecom companies in West Africa and beyond.
A certified public accountant (CPA) and holder of a master’s degree in Business Administration and Accounting from the Lebanese American University, Farroukh began his career in 1995 as the CEO of Investcom Group, a telecom company acquired by MTN Group in 2006. His subsequent roles included managing director at MTN Ghana, regional director for West Africa at Investcom, and CEO of MTN Nigeria from 2006 to 2010.
Farroukh’s leadership experience continued with stints as CEO of MTN South Africa, CEO of Mobily in Saudi Arabia, and Group CEO of Smile Communications Nigeria Limited. His diverse background has equipped him to navigate the complexities of the telecommunications industry.
In its statement announcing the appointment, Globacom emphasized the importance of the decision, noting that the company faces significant challenges, including subscriber count discrepancies discovered during a recent regulatory audit by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC). As a result, Globacom’s subscriber base decreased by 69.2 percent within six months.
Farroukh’s role will be crucial in revitalizing the company’s subscriber growth, guiding structural adjustments, and fostering robust governance practices – a key aspect emphasized by the NCC.
The appointment of Farroukh reflects Globacom’s commitment to prioritizing good governance and transparency, which is essential for driving growth and success in the competitive telecommunications landscape.
