NANS to New Education Minister: End Strikes, Boost Educators’ Welfare

NANS urges new Education Minister to end Strikes, boost welfare for educators

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called on the newly appointed Education Minister, Tunji Alausa, to take urgent action to prevent strike actions by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and other university unions. The students are pushing for sustainable funding and improved welfare for educators across Nigeria’s tertiary institutions.

In a media briefing, Senate Clerk Abdulyekini Odunayo emphasized the need for swift and targeted measures to enhance the quality of education. He highlighted the importance of curriculum reform, teacher training, and creating innovative learning environments, stating that consistent investment in these areas would be crucial to stabilizing the sector.

NANS also urged the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, to adopt a collaborative approach with student leaders and youth organizations. Odunayo advocated for initiatives that empower young people, promote entrepreneurship, and increase job opportunities, emphasizing the need for programs that respond to the evolving needs of Nigeria’s youth.

The student body reiterated the need for ongoing reforms to uplift education standards, strengthen skills development, and ensure long-term solutions to the recurring issues around university funding and faculty welfare.
