Ondo Polls Marred by Vote Buying with Rice, Fertilizer, and Cassava

Ondo Election: Politicians Induce Voters With Rice, Fertilizer, Cassava – Yiaga Africa

Yiaga Africa, a non-profit dedicated to promoting democracy and good governance, has expressed concerns over the rising instances of voter inducement by politicians in Ondo State ahead of the November 16th governorship election.

The organization, which promotes transparency and accountability in government, released a pre-election report detailing cases of electoral manipulation during campaign activities in various local government areas in Ondo State.

According to the report, Long Term Observers with Yiaga Africa documented instances of political leaders from the All Progressives Congress (APC) distributing goods such as fertilizers, rice, cassava, and maize to community leaders, who were then tasked with handing them out within their spheres of influence.

Yiaga Africa has called on all political parties to refrain from actions that could compromise the integrity of the election.

The organization emphasized the importance of maintaining the safety of voters, election officials, and other stakeholders to ensure a peaceful and credible electoral process in Ondo State.

As the election draws near, tensions between political parties are rising, with both sides engaging in heated exchanges and warning each other. This escalatory situation highlights the need for vigilance and peaceful conduct from all parties involved. Security agencies must take proactive measures to mitigate these risks and ensure the integrity of the electoral process.

Prioritizing the safety of all participants, including voters and election officials, is crucial to maintaining the credibility of the election. Measures must be taken to prevent violence and ensure a peaceful outcome.
