Vice President Yemi Osinbajo Calls on President Tinubu to Mitigate Economic Hardships for Nigerians
Osinbajo expressed deep concern about the growing food insecurity plaguing the country.
As Nigeria faces significant economic challenges, Osinbajo implored President Tinubu to prioritize the well-being of Nigerians, specifically focusing on targeted social welfare programs, accessible healthcare, and policies that alleviate the rising costs of daily necessities like food, transportation, and housing.
In a keynote speech at the 2024 WIMBIZ conference, Osinbajo emphasized the urgent need to address the crippling costs that are eroding people’s hope for survival. “Rising food prices are ravaging the lives of Nigerian children, and we must respond to this crisis.”
Osinbajo also underscored the importance of strengthening social safety nets to ensure the most basic needs of Nigerians are met. He posited that a robust support system is crucial in protecting the vulnerable and vulnerableizing the strong.
In addition, the former Vice President broached the topic of Nigeria’s literacy challenges, with the northern region being the hardest hit, where an astonishing 67% of women are illiterate.
Osinbajo stressed that education is the bedrock of national development, warning that without it, a nation may struggle to progress, with half its population stuck in a cycle of illiteracy and disempowerment.
To overcome these barriers, Osinbajo advocates for large-scale social interventions that not only combat literacy but also promote economic empowerment and reduce inequality.
“Investing in education and creating economic opportunities for our people, particularly women, is critical to building a more prosperous and equitable Nigeria,” Osinbajo added, emphasizing the need to harness the power of education as a driving force for development.
