Mass Kidnappings Rock Zamfara State as Over 100 Innocent Citizens Are Abducted
Recent reports have surfaced of an alarming wave of kidnappings in Zamfara State, where at least 100 people, including women, children, and the elderly, were taken by bandits in a gruesome attack.
According to information gathered by Naijawebinfo, the kidnappers targeted multiple communities in Wanke, a locale adjacent to Gusau, the state capital, whisking away their victims to the wilderness.
Among the abducted was the Chief Imam, who was attending to a leg injury at the time of the attack and has now been targeted twice by the same group of bandits.
As news of the kidnappings continues to spread, there remains an eerie silence from the state government and police department, leaving many to question their response to these and previous attacks.
However, a survivor of the violence has come forward to recount their harrowing experience to the BBC Hausa Service.
According to the individual, the affected communities are currently under siege, triggering a mass exodus as residents flee in fear of further attacks. The survivors described a disturbing scene in which bandits chased victims on motorbikes, intercepted women in their homes, and herded the abducted into the bush, treating them like animals.
The survivor shared that bandits had been attacking several communities, including Gira, Ruwa Kusa, Dogon Hayi, and Gidan Kado, for the past nine years, stealing food, motorcycles, and livestock, as well as committing burglaries.
With authorities yet to intervene, residents are left grappling with the constant threat, forced to live in trepidation of nightfall, when they are no longer safe in their homes.
