Banky W: Wizkid survived by working tirelessly in cramped studios, not having cash for luxury sessions.

‘Wizkid Was A Studio Rat, Not Fortunate Enough To Afford Studio Time’ – Banky W

Banky W Opens Up About Wizkid’s Humble Beginnings

Music mogul, Olubankole Wellington, also known as Banky W, has recently shared a heartwarming story about the early days of Afrobeat superstar Wizkid’s career. In a viral video online, Banky W spoke about how Wizkid, then a young aspiring artist, spent hours hovering around various recording studios without being able to afford a single minute of studio time.

A true testament to Wizkid’s dedication and raw talent, Banky W described him as a “studio rat” who would often hang out in recording studios, waiting patiently for the opportunity to collaborate with producers and engineers.

“Wizkid spent a significant part of his life unable to afford studio time,” Banky W recalled. “So, he would frequently visit studios, eager to learn and create music wherever possible. He’d stay all day, honing his skills, perfecting hooks and melodies, just in case he was offered a brief chance to hop on the mic for 15 or 30 minutes.”

Banky W explained that in those early days, Wizkid didn’t have the luxury of overthinking his lyrics or melodies, so he developed a remarkable ability to freestyle tracks on the spot. It was this unique process that ultimately led to his swift rise to fame and solidified his reputation as a prolific songwriter.

“Now, Wizkid is one of the fastest songwriters I’ve ever encountered,” Banky W proudly noted. “He can simply sit, listen, and compose a melody that will sweep the world off its feet. That’s where his stage name, Wiz, originated from – the culmination of his incredible musical talent and perseverance.”
