Explosion Rocks Imo State Market, Leaves Two Dead and Several Injured
A bomb explosion has sent shockwaves through a bustling marketplace in Imo State, claiming the lives of two suspected hoodlums and leaving several others injured, according to the Imo State Police Command.
The blast, which occurred in the midst of shoppers and traders, triggered a chaotic stampede as people scrambled to escape the area.
An eyewitness recounted the terrifying scene: “We were going about our daily business when the explosion happened. It was absolute pandemonium. People were running for their lives, and some didn’t make it.” The witness added, “The relative peace in the area has been shattered, and we’re all living in fear now.”
Confirming the incident, Imo State Police Command spokesman Henry Okoye revealed that two hoodlums have been confirmed dead. The police have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the explosion and any potential links to criminal activity.
Okoye provided further details, stating that the explosion was caused by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED). He also confirmed that the Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, has deployed Anti-Bomb operatives to the scene to ensure the area is safe.
According to Okoye, the two deceased individuals were setting up the IED when it exploded, killing them instantly. He urged Imolites to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities in their areas to the authorities.
The police have deployed operatives to the area to maintain order and ensure the public’s safety. Residents are advised to remain calm and to continue reporting any concerns to the authorities.
