The Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has slammed Governor Godwin Obaseki over his last-minute decisions, including converting hundreds of his former aides and business associates into State Civil Service employees.

Naijawebinfo reports that the State Chairman of APC, Jarrett Tenebe, criticized Obaseki’s actions in a statement released on Friday.

The APC claimed that Obaseki’s moves will create a nightmare for the incoming administration and imperil the future of Edo State. The party urged the people of Edo to rise up against Obaseki’s policies and protect the state’s assets.

In a scathing critique, the statement accused Obaseki of making far-reaching decisions that will cause problems for his successor, Monday Okpebholo.

The statement from the APC reads:

“The All Progressives Congress is appalled by the alarming number of last-minute decisions being implemented by the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration. Our findings reveal Obaseki’s brazen disregard for civil service protocol, as evidenced by the hasty conversion of his former aides into State employees without following the proper process.
“This shocking development demonstrates Obaseki’s breach of his oath of office and his calculated attempt to undermine the State Civil Service Commission. His actions undermine the integrity of the workforce and create chaos for his successor.

The APC statement also attacked Obaseki’s establishment of a committee to develop a new minimum wage, which the party claimed is a ploy to fuel industrial unrest.

The ruling party charged that Obaseki had not fully implemented the APC-led Federal Government’s minimum wage of N70,000, citing his effort to create new minimum wage benchmarks.

In a striking revelation, the APC implicated Obaseki in fraudulent activities by alleging that his administration has compromised the State’s funds through inflated project costs.

The ruling party urged Edo State residents to defend their heritage by rejecting Obaseki’s policies.

In response, Edo State Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhar, urged APC to stop whining and prepare for government.

He counselled, “Stop lamenting and put in some work. Stop complaining about everything – the employees, minimum wage, project openings, and projected bank balances.”

In a reassuring gesture, he predicted that Edo’s treasury would remain robust following the Federal Government’s Federal Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) payments.
