Gombe State’s New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) Governorship Candidate Joins the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)
Naijawebinfo has reported that Khamisu Mailantarki, the NNPP’s 2023 governorship candidate in Gombe State, has announced his affiliation with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
This decision comes three months after Mailantarki’s departure from the NNPP, during which he remained unaligned with any political party.
In a statement at the PDP headquarters, Mailantarki explained that he has joined the party to enhance its chances of winning, with the goal of defeating the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state by 2027.
Mailantarki has criticized the APC’s governance at both the federal and state levels, arguing that they have failed to deliver effective governance.
In his words, Mailantarki stated that PDP is the only viable option for taking power from the APC, which led to his decision to join the party after leaving the NNPP.
During his speech, Mailantarki also took aim at Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, criticizing some of his administration’s policies, such as revoking land titles and requiring civil servants to undergo biometric registration every day at their workplaces. Mailantarki described these policies as unacceptable and argued that forcing workers to come to work five times a day without a corresponding salary increase was unfair.
PDP Gombe State Chairman Abner Kwaskebe welcomed Mailantarki’s decision, commending his bold move.
“Mailantarki’s defection is a significant success for the party, and we promise a level playing field for all members,” he added.
