Hamas Seeks Gaza Truce and Palestinian Sovereignty Amid Trump’s US Presidency

Hamas Calls For Ceasefire In Gaza, Palestinian Independence After Trump’s Election Victory

A senior Hamas official has called for an end to violence in Gaza and a renewed push for Palestinian statehood following the election of Donald Trump as the next US President.

In an interview with Newsweek, Hamas Political Bureau spokesperson Basem Naim expressed hope that the new administration would support Palestinian aspirations for independence and an end to aggression in Gaza.

Naim emphasized that while Trump’s election was a private matter for Americans, Palestinians were eager to see an immediate halt to hostilities and support for their fundamental rights, including freedom, independence, and the establishment of a self-sovereign state with Jerusalem as its capital.

He also urged the US to reassess its support for Israel, stating that blind backing for the Israeli government was at the expense of Palestinian security and regional stability and must cease immediately.

Naijawebinfo reports that Donald Trump, the Republican candidate and former US President, won the 2024 presidential election, defeating Democratic candidate Kamala Harris.

During his previous term, Trump maintained a close relationship with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has been engaged in conflicts with Iran-aligned groups since a large-scale Hamas-led attack on Israel in October 2023.
