APC’s governance style may make it tough for an outsider to win 2027 presidency.

2027 Presidency: ‘It Will Be Difficult For Outsider To Win With How APC Administration Is Working’

The All Progressives Congress (APC) is cautioning opposition parties in Nigeria not to get carried away by the outcome of the recent US presidential election, emphasizing that President Bola Tinubu is poised to secure a victory in 2027.

In a surprising turn of events, former President Donald Trump was declared the winner of the US presidential election, sending shockwaves around the world. Trump’s triumph marks a significant comeback, with the 78-year-old businessman becoming the 47th president of the United States and the oldest individual to win the White House.

In response to the news, the Labour Party’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, described the US election as a testament to democracy and highlighted the American electorate’s disregard for the incumbency factor, a phenomenon often seen in African elections. Similarly, Ladipo Johnson, the spokesperson for the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), commented on the complexities of the US electoral system and expressed hope for a future in which Nigeria would overcome the practice of incumbent leaders using their power to intimidate opposition parties.

However, APC National Publicity Director Bala Ibrahim urged caution, noting that electoral processes in Nigeria and the US are distinct. Ibrahim stressed that while the US election may be a significant achievement for Trump, it is not a guarantee of similar success for President Tinubu in 2027. He highlighted that incumbency does not always guarantee victory, citing former President Muhammadu Buhari’s 2015 win over then-incumbent Goodluck Jonathan as an example.

Ibrahim expressed confidence that Nigerians will soon appreciate the benefits of President Tinubu’s economic reforms, which will likely secure public support for his continued leadership. He emphasized that the APC remains unfazed by opposition threats and is focused on delivering on its promises, regardless of internal crises facing the party.

In an interview with Punch, Ibrahim stated that the APC is working hard to bring about positive change and reform, which will yield benefits in the long run. He predicted that the fruits of these efforts will become apparent around 2026 and 2027, making it unlikely for opposition parties to win the presidency. Ibrahim added that the APC is prepared for any challenges and will not be caught off guard.
