The Edo State Government is urging the Governor-elect and his self-appointed aides to focus on preparations for their inauguration ceremony instead of dragging Governor Godwin Obaseki into their political disputes.
In a statement, Special Adviser to Governor Obaseki on Media Projects, Crusoe Osagie, expressed disappointment at the new administration’s focus on extravagant spending, saying it’s a step back for the state’s governance.
Obaseki noted that it’s disheartening to see the state’s funds being squandered on lavish celebrations when the people of Edo have grown accustomed to prudent use of public funds to stimulate economic growth.
The Governor-elect has reportedly committed to spending N5 billion on the inauguration, with additional costs expected on November 12, the event day. Osagie described this as a reckless expenditure, especially given the state’s current economic situation.
Obaseie also highlighted the professionalism shown by the current administration in handling the transition process, which avoided the chaos and destruction of government assets seen in past transitions.
However, Osagie claimed that the incoming administration is frustrated by this approach and is now making baseless accusations against Obaseki to shift the blame. He said this was not unexpected, but added that they would have been surprised if they had chosen a different approach.
