Edo State Governor-elect, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has expressed concern over the erratic behavior and sudden disappearance of outgoing Governor Godwin Obaseki.
In a statement released on Sunday, Okpebholo expressed worry about the mental state of Obaseki, citing his recent actions as cause for concern. Many Edo citizens are reportedly troubled by Obaseki’s behavior, which has left them questioning his motives.
According to the statement, Obaseki reportedly fled Benin City, the state capital, using a disguised bus and has not been seen for over 72 hours. The Governor-elect questioned Obaseki’s decision to leave the state, suggesting that it was an attempt to distract the public from his alleged plan to leave the country through land borders.
Okpebholo accused Obaseki of trying to undermine the election outcome by spreading falsehoods and attempting to divert attention from his own actions. He stated that Obaseki’s claims of not being invited to the upcoming inauguration were “laughable and absurd,” as the outgoing governor had made no effort to facilitate a peaceful power transfer or extend an invitation for a meeting.
The Governor-elect reiterated that he won the September 21st election convincingly and was confident that the tribunal would uphold his victory. He warned Obaseki of potential legal repercussions once his immunity lapses, stating that he would not stand by while Obaseki continued to distort the truth.
Okpebholo urged the people of Edo State to look forward to a new chapter of development, calling on them to disregard Obaseki’s “irresponsible” statements and rally behind the incoming administration to foster positive change and growth in the state.
He also mocked Obaseki, stating that he was still “licking his wounds of defeat” and had yet to accept the reality of his loss. Okpebholo called on Obaseki to face the reality of his administration’s failures, account for the funds misappropriated, and apologize for the stagnation of progress over the past eight years.
It’s time for Edo to move forward, and Okpebholo is committed to making that happen.
