Labour Party Governorship Aspirant, John Nwosu, Seeks Backing from Obedient Movement in Anambra Election
Nwosu recently addressed members of the Obedient Movement from the five South East states during a symposium in Onitsha, commending the group for transforming the Nigerian political landscape.
He emphasized the group’s ongoing mission, citing Labour Party leader Peter Obi’s words: “We’re in a marathon race to produce a New Nigeria. I firmly believe that a New Nigeria is imperative and possible!”
Nwosu expressed satisfaction with the progress made in organizing the Obedient Movement, noting that those who supported it from the beginning are relieved to see tangible steps being taken.
He cautioned against attempts to exploit the movement, warning that recent interest has led to individuals trying to claim leadership despite having no part in its inception. Nwosu referenced divisions in states like Imo and Edo, attributing these splits to opportunistic alliances.
“The Obidient Movement was organic from the start and still is,” he said. “However, we must recognize its titular leader and founding members – the Six Support Groups that initiated the movement. They remain relevant to its vision and mission.”
Nwosu urged members to reject any figures attempting to claim authority within the group as the election draws near, emphasizing that the movement is not aligned with any political party and is solely committed to Peter Obi’s vision.
In his policy goals, Nwosu focused on improving Anambra’s economic framework, stating that the state’s people are currently overtaxed and undeserved. He plans to revamp the state’s internally generated revenue regime, implementing fair taxation policies that consider small businesses and low-income individuals.
Nwosu also intends to establish social welfare programs, including social safety nets, housing assistance, nutrition programs, and financial aid, to protect vulnerable populations. He aims to put an end to the current reliance on Abuja’s handouts and create a self-sustaining economy for Anambra.
