Devastation in Birnin Gwari: Bandits Wreak Havoc on Farmers’ Maize Crops

In a shocking and heart-wrenching turn of events, suspected bandits have set ablaze harvested maize crops on at least six farms in Kwaga village and Unguwar Zako, within the Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The affected farmers, who are still trying to come to terms with the destruction, are overcome with grief and disbelief at the scale of the devastation. The attack, which occurred on Sunday night, has left the community in a state of shock.

A video obtained by Daily Trust captures the charred remains of the farms, with the distraught farmers offering each other comfort in their time of need.

Among those worst affected is Kabiru Halilu Kwaga, who had harvested an impressive 160 bags of maize last year and was expecting an even greater yield this season. Unfortunately, his entire crop was destroyed in the attack.

Surajo Kwaga, who had gathered 40 bags of maize from his farm last year, also suffered a complete loss, as did Malam Dan Gido, who had harvested 50 bags last year and was expecting 65 bags this year.

Jibril Haladu Kwaga was another farmer who fell victim to the bandits’ destructive rampage. In the face of such overwhelming loss, the affected farmers have turned to prayer, seeking solace and guidance from above.

Ishaq Usman Kasai, Chairman of the Birnin Gwari-Niger Inter-boundaries Communities Association, confirmed the incident, revealing that the bandits involved are part of a group led by the notorious kingpin, Yellow Jamboros, who has been terrorizing local communities for some time.

As of the time of filing this report, the state government has yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
