Police Question Premier League Player in Ongoing Investigation into Sexual Offences
A professional footballer, who is in his 30s, is currently under investigation for multiple alleged sexual offences, including two reported rapes and a separate sexual offence. The Premier League player was questioned by police last week as part of the ongoing inquiry.
The investigation began in July 2022, when police first arrested the player at his home in West London, following a report of rape. Despite the ongoing probe, the player has continued to participate in matches for his club.
Last Thursday, he voluntarily attended a police station and was interviewed under caution in relation to the allegations against him.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson confirmed that the force is actively investigating reports of alleged sexual offences that took place between 2021 and 2023. The player was initially arrested in July 2022 and has since been questioned by police on two additional occasions while under caution.
The allegations against the Premier League player include two reported rapes, with the initial arrest following a report of an alleged rape in June 2022. While in custody, he was also suspected of involvement in two further alleged rape incidents reported to have occurred in April and June 2021.
However, authorities have decided not to pursue further action regarding the incident from June 2021, as the relevant legislation addressing that case had not yet come into effect at the time it is alleged to have occurred.
In addition, the player was taken into custody again in February 2022 on suspicion of committing a sexual offence in West London that year.
