Fire Devastates Eco Fitness Center in Abuja’s Gwarinpa Area
A distressing fire incident occurred at the Eco Fitness Center in Abuja’s Gwarinpa area on November 13, 2024. Luckily, more than 50 people managed to escape the well-known gym when the blaze started.
The fire began around 10:00 am, prompting emergency services to rush to the scene and contain the inferno. As of the time of this report, the cause of the fire remains a mystery.
Although the fire has been extinguished, significant damage was done to the building. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
This incident follows a fire outbreak at the private residence of the Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mariya Mahmoud, just 24 hours prior.
According to reports, the fire at Mahmoud’s residence occurred on Sunday afternoon at her home on Justice Roseline Ukeji Close, Asokoro. Media aide Austine Elemue confirmed that the house was completely destroyed, leaving nothing salvageable. Firefighters responded slowly to the incident, and the cause of the fire remains unknown.
Additionally, at least 25 shops were destroyed in a fire that ravaged a structure in Ilorin, Kwara State’s capital, over the weekend.
The fire started around 02:39 hours on Saturday at the Adeta roundabout. Upon arriving at the scene, firefighters found a block of shops fully engulfed in flames. Despite the severity of the incident, swift action by the Kwara State fire service team limited the damage to only three shops, including a soft drinks and alcohol shop.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire was caused by a power surge.
