Chaos Unfolds as Gunmen Launch Surprise Attack on Abia Military Checkpoint

In a shocking incident, gunmen dressed in black ambushed a military checkpoint in Umuahia South Local Government, Abia State, on Wednesday morning, leaving a trail of uncertainty and fear.

The sudden assault took place at Umuopara, Ekenobizi, near the border with Imo State. Eyewitnesses reported a barrage of gunfire in every direction, sending shockwaves through the area.

A local resident described the scene, stating that the attackers launched a surprise attack on the checkpoint, causing widespread panic.

A video capturing the aftermath of the attack has been shared, showing the perpetrators firing their weapons and issuing a direct threat to Abia Governor Alex Otti.

In the footage, one of the attackers can be heard warning Governor Otti to dismantle the checkpoint and not to return, or risk facing severe consequences. The chilling message was delivered at approximately 13:00 hours on November 13, 2024.

Abia State, like its neighboring southeastern states, has been grappling with a rise in insecurity, marked by frequent attacks and violence. The latest incident has only added to the growing concern and uncertainty in the region.
