Atiku Abubakar’s Associate Slams Governor Makinde’s Comments on Presidential Candidates
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State sparked controversy recently when he implied that age could be a limiting factor for presidential hopefuls. However, his remarks have been met with strong opposition from Dimeji Fabiyi, an associate of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
Fabiyi, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, dismissed Makinde’s comments as evidence of the governor’s lack of understanding of history and leadership. In a statement, Fabiyi pointed out that Atiku is not only of sound mind and body but also possesses a wealth of experience and intellectual prowess that far surpasses Makinde’s own abilities.
Fabiyi challenged Makinde to an intellectual debate with Atiku, arguing that the governor’s boasts about his youth would be humbled in the process. He also highlighted Atiku’s love of reading and his extensive library, which he believes is unparalleled in the country.
“I’d like to see Governor Makinde engage in a contest of ideas with Atiku,” Fabiyi said. “He should learn to appreciate the value of intellectual curiosity and the importance of reading widely. Instead, he seems to be enamored with the company of those who indulge in excessive drinking.”
Fabiyi also pointed out that the recent presidential election in the United States, where President-elect Donald Trump won against a younger opponent, serves as a stark reminder that experience and age are valuable assets in leadership. He urged Makinde to focus on improving his own intellectual abilities by reading good books and familiarizing himself with intellectuals.
“Rather than priding himself on drinking expensive whiskey, Governor Makinde should devote more time to self-improvement,” Fabiyi advised. “This would enable him to make more informed comments about leadership and its requirements.”
