Federal Troops Deployed to Quell Violence in Nigeria’s Kebbi State
Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has responded to recent attacks in Kebbi State’s Augie Local Government Area by deploying a contingent of troops to tackle the terrorist group Lakurawa.
The deployment comes in response to an urgent call from Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, who sought federal assistance to stem the tide of violence sweeping through the region.
The newly deployed soldiers, equipped with advanced weaponry and armoured vehicles, met with Kebbi State Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Tafida, before moving towards Mera village, which was recently attacked by the group, leaving at least 17 people dead.
After engaging the terrorists, the troops recovered cattle abandoned by the group amidst the intense military action.
Abdullahi Idris Zuru, spokesperson for the governor, highlighted the critical importance of the troops’ presence in restoring security and stability to the region. “The governor has vowed to ensure the safety and well-being of all citizens in Kebbi State, which is why he sought federal assistance to tackle terrorism across the state,” Zuru emphasized.
The attack on Mera village has had a devastating impact on the community, leaving many displaced and grieving. Military efforts are ongoing to restore peace and security to the region.
