Benin Republic Coach Reveals Super Eagles Weakness Ahead Of 2025 AFCON Qualifiers

Benin Republic Coach Gernot Rohr Eyes Repeat Victory Against Super Eagles

After a historic 2-1 win over the Super Eagles in a June 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying match, Benin Republic’s coach Gernot Rohr acknowledges that the next encounter will be a daunting task. With Nigeria now at full strength, Rohr is aware that the task of replicating that success will be challenging.

In a recent interview with Foot Africa, Rohr emphasized, “Repeating the feat of June will be complicated because Nigeria is now at full strength. But we believe in our team.” He remains optimistic about the Cheetahs’ chances despite the hurdles they will face.

Rohr has also expressed concerns about the absence of key players Cedric Hountondji, Olivier Verdon, Matteo Ahlinvi, and David Kiki ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Nigeria and Libya.

Although the Cheetahs will be without these essential players, Rohr is confident in his team’s ability to adapt and perform. “While we would have preferred to have Cedric and Olivier with us, we are prepared to move forward without them,” he told Joueurs Beninois.

The Cheetahs currently occupy second place in Group B with six points from four matches. The team is eager to make a statement in the West African derby against the Super Eagles, which will take place at the Felix Houphouët-Boigny Stadium in Abidjan on Thursday, November 14, starting at 8 p.m. Nigerian time.

The Benin Republic will face Libya in a crucial qualifying match just four days after the encounter against the Super Eagles.
