Rio Ferdinand Questions Manchester United’s Decision to Sack Ruud van Nistelrooy
The new manager of Manchester United, Ruben Amorim, has faced criticism from Rio Ferdinand, a former Red Devils legend, following the departure of interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy. According to Ferdinand, maintaining van Nistelrooy’s involvement at the club could have been beneficial for the team during this period of transition.
Ruben Amorim officially took the reins at Old Trafford on Monday, replacing Erik ten Hag as the permanent manager of the club. He brought with him his trusted coaching team from Sporting Lisbon, and fans are eager to see the impact he’ll have on the team’s performance.
Ferdinand believes that van Nistelrooy’s connection with the current squad could have been a valuable asset, acknowledging that his continued role may have posed some challenges. However, he argues that the benefits of his experience and understanding of the team’s dynamics could have been worth exploring.
“We’ve been waiting for a manager to build a rapport with the players, and we now have one in Amorim,” Ferdinand said during an episode of Rio Reacts. “It’s natural to wonder why Ruud was let go. Perhaps Amorim didn’t see him as an integral part of his plans, but it’s intriguing to consider what could have been gained from keeping him on board.”
The former England international also emphasized the importance of Amorim’s approach, suggesting that the Portuguese manager should assess whether van Nistelrooy adds value to his vision or could potentially be a distraction.
In other news, Ruben Amorim is reportedly considering loaning Manchester United’s Joshua Zirkzee to another club during the January transfer window. The Dutch striker joined United six months ago for a fee of £36.5 million but has struggled to make an impact, starting just four Premier League matches and scoring only once against Fulham.
Juventus is said to be interested in Zirkzee, and reports in England claim that United are open to loan offers for the player to give him more playing time and help him develop.
