Ex-Ebonyi Commissioner Abia Onyike Ditches PDP for APC
A former Commissioner in Ebonyi State, Abia Onyike, has made the switch from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
According to a report by Naijawebinfo, Onyike, a former Deputy National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, announced his decision to leave PDP at a ceremony in Owutu Edda Ward, located in the Edda Local Government Area of the state, on Wednesday.
Onyike cited Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru’s efforts to restore good governance as the reason behind his defection.
He stated, “I’m joining the APC because I believe in building a strong alliance of support for Governor Nwifuru, who has taken significant steps towards restoring good governance and inclusive politics in Ebonyi State.”
Onyike emphasized, “Politics is local, and we’re driven by our own developmental aspirations in our state. I’m joining other progressive forces in the state to sustain and consolidate the current peaceful atmosphere prevalent in the state under Governor Nwifuru.”
Welcoming Onyike to the APC, the Chairman of the Owutu Edda Ward chapter, Oko Ogbuagu, expressed optimism that Onyike’s entry would boost the party’s chances in future elections.
Ogbuagu said, “Onyike is a seasoned politician with a strong connection to the people. His entry into our party will undoubtedly enhance its fortunes in future elections.”
