Surprise Endorsements: Three Gubernatorial Candidates Ditch Rivals to Support APC’s Lucky Aiyedatiwa
In a stunning turn of events, just 48 hours before the Ondo State governorship election, three gubernatorial candidates – Dr. Ajibola Falaye of the Accord Party, Hon. Jenyo Ataunko of the National Rescue Movement, and Olaide Ibrahim of the African Democratic Congress – have announced they will no longer contest and instead endorse the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
The surprising development was confirmed by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Aiyedatiwa, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, in a statement released on Thursday in Akure.
According to Adeniyan, the three candidates met with the governor and officially declared their support for his re-election bid.
Dr. Falaye, speaking on behalf of the endorsing candidates, highlighted Governor Aiyedatiwa’s unwavering commitment to public service, his impressive record, and his dedication to the people of Ondo State.
Falaye praised Aiyedatiwa for his inclusive approach to governance, his focus on prioritizing the welfare of citizens, and his success in maintaining peace and security within the state.
He noted the shared values of progressive politics and the alignment of NRM, ADC, and Accord with the Aiyedatiwa administration.
Falaye urged his supporters to join the APC and demonstrate their commitment to continuity by voting for Aiyedatiwa on Saturday.
In his response, Governor Aiyedatiwa expressed immense gratitude for the endorsement, describing it as a rare display of goodwill and camaraderie.
“It’s an honor to accept this surprise endorsement, not because I asked for it, but because my opponents have recognized the value and progress our administration has achieved,” he said.
Aiyedatiwa welcomed the candidates’ decision to unite behind him, calling it an act of statesmanship and a boost to the APC’s bid for re-election.
With barely 48 hours left until the election, the governor urged supporters to mobilize and vote for the APC on Saturday.
A number of esteemed guests, including Benue Governor Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia and the Director General of Aiyedatiwa’s campaign, Hon Abiola Makinde, were also present at the meeting with the three endorsing candidates.
