Ten Teams Already Qualified For 2025 AFCON With Two Games To Go

African Powerhouses Ivory Coast and Equatorial Guinea Secure Berths for 2025 AFCON

The road to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) has reached a significant milestone, with Ivory Coast and Equatorial Guinea cementing their places in the tournament without even taking to the pitch. The penultimate round of qualifying fixtures kicked off on Wednesday, and these two teams have secured their berths in style.

Ivory Coast’s impressive performances have earned them a guaranteed spot in the finals, as they will undoubtedly finish among the top two in Group G. The team’s dominance has been evident, with nine points from four matches, leaving them in a commanding position at the top of the group.

Sierra Leone’s intense match against Chad ended in a 1-1 draw, ultimately sealing Chad’s elimination from the qualification race. This result has put Ivory Coast’s qualification beyond doubt, with Zambia trailing closely behind in second place.

In Group E, Liberia’s narrow 1-0 victory over Togo was a critical moment in the qualification journey. This win led to the elimination of both Liberia and Togo, paving the way for Equatorial Guinea’s progression to the finals. The team has shown remarkable resilience, accumulating seven points from their four qualifying matches.

However, Liberia’s chances of qualifying have been significantly reduced, with only four points from five matches. Togo, meanwhile, finds themselves at the bottom of the group with just two points.

The current list of qualified teams includes powerhouses like Algeria, Equatorial Guinea, Ivory Coast, and Cameroon, as well as notable contenders like Angola, Burkina Faso, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Morocco, and Senegal.

The excitement surrounding the tournament is far from over, with a series of additional qualifying matches scheduled for Thursday. Heavyweights like Nigeria, Sudan, and Tunisia are set to make their mark, as they seek to secure their tickets to the prestigious tournament in Morocco.
