People Are Happy With What I Am Doing In FCT – Wike

Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, Dispels Rumors of Endorsement for PDP’s Ondo Governorship Candidate

In a recent press conference, Wike emphasized that he has not received a formal request from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to support Agboola Ajayi in the upcoming Ondo State governorship election.

According to Wike, proper consultation is crucial before making a decision, stating that, “I don’t take rash decisions. I have not been approached by the PDP to support their candidate in Ondo, and until then, I won’t make any public declarations.”

Wike reflected on his past experiences with the PDP, mentioning the formal approach made to him during the Bayelsa State election, which led to his support for Governor Douye Diri’s successful candidacy.

“I provided full support, which translates to giving everything necessary to ensure his victory, and he won,” Wike shared, highlighting the value of party consultation.

In contrast, Wike recalled declining an invitation from former Governor Godwin Obaseki to support the PDP candidate in the recent Edo State election.

“I made it clear that I would not support Obaseki. They then asked me to remain silent, which I agreed to do,” he said, emphasizing the importance of consistency in party alignment.

Wike also shared that he hasn’t had recent contact with Ajayi, mentioning that their last encounter was when he supported him in his race against Eyitayo Jegede after Ajayi resigned as deputy governor under the late Rotimi Akeredolu.

In his criticism of the PDP’s leadership, Wike lamented the party’s poor communication regarding the Ondo election, directing his criticism at the leadership of the governors’ forum.

“PDP has never faced a state of leadership as poor as this, especially under the current chairman of the governors’ forum,” he said, emphasizing the need for dynamic leadership.

Naijawebinfo reports that Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, who leads the PDP governors’ forum, has been at odds with Wike over the running of the party.

Meanwhile, Wike emphasized the need for effective mobilization and leadership to regain power in Ondo State, stating, “To be a leader, you must have the capacity to galvanize the people. As an opposition, you should demonstrate readiness to take over power.”
