Deji Adeyanju, a renowned human rights lawyer, lambasted Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, describing him as a master of deception.
In a fiery press conference in Abuja, Adeyanju launched a blistering attack on Wike, claiming that the minister’s history of betrayal extends far and wide. According to Adeyanju, Wike has consistently used people to get ahead in politics, only to stab them in the back once they’re no longer needed.
The activist lawyer specifically mentioned that Wike has betrayed numerous prominent figures, including former President Goodluck Jonathan and former Rivers State governors Peter Odili and Rotimi Amaechi. This has led to widespread suspicion over Wike’s intentions, particularly since his surprise defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to support President Tinubu’s All Progressives Congress (APC) administration.
Adeyanju pointed out that Wike’s record of deception is well-documented, stating, “He’s never worked anywhere. From a humble background, he became a local government chairman, and from there, he has been betraying people left and right.” He compared Wike unfavorably to Portable, the Nigerian musician, saying that at least Portable shows loyalty to those who have helped him.
Adeyanju also accused Wike of manipulating and sabotaging his opponents, citing his treatment of former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi as an example. “Typically Wike,” he remarked, “he goes behind people’s backs and causes trouble.” He predicted that Wike would not stop until he had damaged every single person who had once trusted him.
This verbal salvo comes in response to Wike’s earlier jabs at Adeyanju. In a recent statement, Wike accused the human rights lawyer of being unemployed and resorting to activism out of desperation. Adeyanju had earlier requested the role of Publicity Secretary for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) but was turned down by Wike.
