Family Tie Turns Political in Ondo Guber Polls: Akeredolu Brother Endorses SDP’s Akingboye
A shocking twist in the governorship election in Ondo State has unfolded, with a family member of the late former governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, throwing his weight behind the Social Democratic Party’s (SDP) candidate, Bamidele Akingboye.
At a press briefing in Akure, Oluwafemi Akeredolu, the younger brother of the late governor, delivered a passionate plea to voters, urging them to prioritise integrity over party loyalty in their decision-making process.
In his address, Akeredolu, who spoke on behalf of the Akeredolu family, emphasized the need for electing a leader who truly cares about the state’s growth and well-being, rather than mere party allegiance.
The younger Akeredolu brother drew attention to his late brother’s reputation as a man of his word, saying, “We are known for being truthful and decisive. My brother was a dedicated APC member, but this election is not about party.” He stressed that party politics can sometimes lead to the selection of unfit candidates, encouraging voters to base their choice on competence rather than party loyalty.
Akeredolu lauded Akingboye’s vision for Ondo’s underutilized resources, particularly the Ondo Seaport, one of the state’s most promising assets. He pointed out that the port’s development has stalled despite its immense potential as a major economic driver, and urged voters not to let Akingboye’s plan for the port’s transformation fall through.
Akeredolu expressed confidence in Akingboye’s ability to effect change in the state, stating that if elected, the SDP candidate would invest his own resources in the state’s development. He emphasized that Akingboye has a genuine vision for the people, not just for himself.
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who took over after Akeredolu’s death, is contesting on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), according to reports.
