The funeral procession of Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, the former Chief of Army Staff, arrived at the National Military Cemetery in Abuja at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, marking the beginning of the burial ceremony according to traditional military protocol.
The ambulance transporting the body was met with solemn reverence, as the pallbearers prepared to place the casket. A moment of silence was observed to pay respects to the late army chief.
In keeping with established protocol, esteemed guests will deliver remarks paying tribute to Lagbaja’s service and dedication to the nation. These dignitaries include the Chief of Defence Staff, the Minister of Defence, and President Bola Tinubu.
The ceremony will also feature the presentation of the national flag to Lagbaja’s next of kin, a poignant gesture acknowledging his selfless service to the country. The casket will then be lowered in a final act of respect.
To conclude the ceremony, President Tinubu, along with other dignitaries including the Senate President, Speaker of the House of Representatives, and notable figures, will lay wreaths to honor the life and legacy of the late army chief.
