Kano State Police Command Cracks Down on Crime, Arrests 82 Suspects
In the past two weeks, a total of 82 suspects have been arrested by the Kano State command of the Nigeria Police Force for allegedly committing various crimes across the state.
The suspects are said to have been involved in a range of criminal activities, including kidnapping, armed robbery, thuggery, phone snatching, and drug dealing.
At a press briefing at the command’s headquarters, Police Public Relations Officer Abdullahi Kiyawa revealed that the arrests were the result of a crime-busting strategy implemented by the command to tackle criminal networks and activities.
The strategy has yielded positive results, according to Kiyawa, with the dismantling of armed robbery syndicates along the Jigawa-Kano and Bauchi-Kano borders, as well as the disruption of kidnapping incidents along the Kaduna-Kano and Katsina-Kano borders.
The operations conducted by the command resulted in the recovery of a range of illicit items, including firearms, dangerous weapons, drugs, and stolen properties.
The items seized from the suspects include an AK-47 rifle and three locally made guns, 13 cutlasses and 16 knives, as well as three motorcycles, one tricycle, 50 sachets of diazepam tablets, 42 sachets of tramadol tablets, 24 parcels, 175 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be hemp, and 10 mobile phones.
Kiyawa emphasized that the command’s dedication to upholding law and order is reflected in its accomplishments, and vowed to continue fortifying its strategies, including community policing and strategic communication, to raise public awareness about security issues.
The command also highlighted the importance of intelligence-led policing and targeted clearance operations in disrupting criminal networks, particularly in border local government areas of the state.
Kiyawa expressed gratitude to Governor Abba Yusuf for donating 78 patrol vehicles to the command, which will significantly enhance its operational capabilities and response times, leading to improved service delivery for the state’s citizens.
