Niniola, a Nigerian singer-songwriter, has made the conscious decision to maintain her independence in the music industry, opting to reject record label offers that would have restricted her creative freedom.
Despite numerous approaches from various labels, Niniola has chosen to stay true to her artistic vision and maintain control over her music.
In a recent interview with TVC, Niniola opened up about her experiences and the benefits of being an independent artist.
She revealed that she has been working independently for the past 10 years, allowing her to harness her full creative potential and make decisions that align with her artistic goals.
“I’ve seen the business side of music, and many people don’t understand that it’s not just about making music,” Niniola said. “As an independent artist, I have the power to dictate my own creative direction.”
She shared a personal anecdote about being approached by a label after the release of her debut single, but she declined their offer due to concerns about losing control over her music and style. “At that time, nobody was doing Afro-house, and I didn’t want anyone to dictate what I did,” she explained.
Niniola emphasized that creative freedom is one of the major advantages of being an independent artist, allowing her to pursue her artistic vision without compromise.
Interestingly, Niniola also revealed that she is an introvert by nature, but music brings out the extrovert in her, giving her the confidence to share her art with the world.
