Heart-Stopping Tragedy Unfolds in Ebonyi as Man Sets Himself, House on Fire After Failed Attempt to Harm Wife, Children
In a devastating story, a 32-year-old man, Onyiuke Nwedeogu, has died in a hospital after he doused himself and his family’s provision shop in flames in Ndiechi Igbeagu, Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
The incident stemmed from a heated argument with his wife, Felicia, on Sunday morning. A source revealed that Nwedeogu allegedly battered his wife before returning home, gathering his belongings and setting the shop on fire, along with himself, in a desperate bid to harm his family.
Rescue efforts by neighbors prevented serious harm to his wife, Felicia, and three daughters, who were rescued from the burning building, while Nwedeogu succumbed to burns sustained during the fire and died at the hospital later.
Investigations indicate a long-standing history of infighting between the couple’s families, which only failed to resolve the problems rather than addressing them. Following the failed attempt on the lives of his wife and children, Nwedeogu drove his vehicle to the shop where he set himself on fire once more.
The Ebonyi State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joshua Ukandu, has yet to formally record the incident at the time of this report.
