Oyo APC Questions Governor Makinde’s Budget Proposal, Demands Transparency
Naijawebinfo reports that the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has expressed concerns over the 2025 budget proposal presented by Governor Seyi Makinde to the state House of Assembly.
The governor submitted a budget of ₦678.86 billion, referred to as the “Budget of Economic Stabilisation,” which allocates ₦349.29 billion for capital expenditure and ₦325.57 billion for recurrent expenditure. However, the opposition party has criticized the proposal, citing a lack of transparency and clarity on specific projects that will utilize 51% of the total budget.
In a statement, the Oyo APC Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, expressed disappointment that the governor did not engage relevant stakeholders in the budget preparation process. The party claimed that the governor’s assertion of involving citizens in the budget proposal is “false” and that the presentation was merely a ceremony to fulfill formalities.
The Oyo APC has challenged Governor Makinde to come clean on the specific projects that will utilize the 51% of the total budget and to provide details on the exact period for the commencement of the payment of the ₦80,000 minimum wage. The party also questioned how Governor Makinde evaluated his scoresheet to claim a 70% successful implementation of the 2024 budget, citing various challenges facing the state, including health sector issues and infrastructure deficits.
The opposition party concluded that Governor Makinde’s budget proposal lacks transparency and that he should provide more information on the specific projects that will utilize the majority of the budget. The party has called on the governor to engage relevant stakeholders and provide a clear breakdown of the budget to ensure transparency and accountability.
