Nigerian Activist Deji Adeyanju Urges Rivers State Governor to Confront Predecessor Nyesom Wike
Adeyanju, a renowned lawyer, recently held a press conference in Abuja where he emphasized that the key to resolving the crisis in Rivers State lies in Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s willingness to stand up to his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.
Fubara, according to Adeyanju, has the power to confront Wike head-on and break the impasse. Adeyanju believes that Wike’s totalitarian nature means that he will not yield to Fubara’s attempts to find a middle ground.
In his words, Adeyanju stated, “There’s nothing Fubara can do to make Wike back down. He’s a totalitarian who doesn’t believe in compromise. He won’t shift, and the only way to resolve the crisis is for Fubara to confront him directly.”
Adeyanju also pointed out that Wike’s actions are driven by a desire for control and a sense of self-importance. “Wike doesn’t like being challenged, and once you challenge him, he becomes agitated and starts talking recklessly,” he said.
The activist also highlighted the legal precedent that supports Fubara’s right to challenge Wike. He cited the Supreme Court’s ruling that when individuals defect from a political party, they lose their seat. Adeyanju urged Fubara to “man up” and confront Wike, rather than yielding to his predecessor’s intimidation tactics.
Adeyanju’s remarks also touched on the topic of Wike’s influence within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). He questioned why Wike, who claims to be the party’s “oracle,” has not been able to secure the nomination for the party’s presidential candidate.
