PDP Raises Alarm Over BVAS Malfunction at Ondo Governorship Election
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has drawn the attention of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to the technical issue affecting the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) at Unit 04, Ward 7, in Akoko West local government area of Ondo State.
According to the PDP’s Situation Room statement, the BVAS device failed to function, preventing accreditation of voters at the polling unit.
In the statement, which was issued on Saturday morning, the PDP noted that despite the election being yet to commence, the faulty machine had caused delay in the process. It called on INEC to intervene immediately to resolve the issue.
On a separate note, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State, who is seeking re-election under the All Progressives Congress (APC), has already cast his vote.
According to reports by Naijawebinfo, Governor Aiyedatiwa cast his ballot at polling unit 6, Ward 4 Obenla community in the state. In a unusual move, he used a boat to access his polling unit at the Ugbonla jetty.
Meanwhile, accreditation and voting have begun at Unit 46, Ward 4, Ijapo Estate, Akure-South local government area.
Recall that INEC had pledged to conduct a free and fair election in Ondo State. Professor Kunle Ajayi, INEC’s National Commissioner Supervising Ondo, Ogun, and Osun States, had made this assurance in an interview on Friday.
